Throughout the year we run a range of classes. This year, these take place on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The photo shows Ken Spencer, one of our most respected, well-loved and entertaining tutors and Isabel Brightman, a long-standing committee member and the organiser of Saturday classes.
Tuesday Class
We have an art group running on Tuesdays, once a month at the moment. It grew out of the original beginners class, and is now pitched at intermediate to advanced artists. All the sessions are tutor-led, and Brian Moon, who has set up and runs the class, has found some great teachers. The class is now running to capacity, so Brian has decided to have classes on TWO Tuesdays each month. New members will be very welcome, you do not need to be a wonderful artist to join. If you are interested, ring Brian on 01670 515663. He will explain in more detail the groups aims and its future programme
Beginners Classes 2010
We occasionally run classes specifically designed for beginners. These usually take the form of a ten week programme covering the basics of drawing and painting. Sadly, we have only received two enquiries about beginners classes. We are still looking into the possibilities of running this type of course, but the lack of interest suggests it may not be a good idea. Some definite information should be available by the second week of March - it will be announced here and also in the News Section.
The Friday Group
The Friday class, run by Harry Rose, is a self contained group within the arts centre, and was set up in 2004
Its members’ aims are to develop their enjoyment of painting and drawing, and also to support the Coquetdale Arts Centre.
Since the Art Centre’s studio is limited in size, (up to 14 people working can be comfortably accommodated), this group’s membership also has to be limited. This problem has been addressed by the setting up of the Notifying List. People interested in attending an ordinary workshop or a tutor led session are notified when there is a vacant place. A list of the tutor led workshops showing dates, tutors, subjects and media is given to all members and people on the Notifying List so that they can decide in advance which sessions they would like to attend. This is a convenient arrangement as there are often vacant places during the Summer. Requests to attend any workshop (ordinary or tutor led) can be made through the chairman Harry Rose tel: 0191 2584041.
Ordinary workshops cost £6.00 to notifying members; and tutor led days cost £12.00. There are no half days.
Members bring their own materials, although there are some basic materials in the studio that can be bought from the Arts Centre at a reasonable price.
Meetings begin at 10.00am and end about 4.00pm. There are facilities for tea and coffee in the studio, and members either bring a packed lunch or buy something in Rothbury.
The Friday Group committee has four members:
Harry Rose – main contact. Noreen Pattie Ros Stewart Edith Marshall.
Saturday Classes
These sessions are open to all, whether members of CAC or not. The classes cost £20 for the full day from 10am - 4pm. Pre-booking is essential as all classes are limited to 14 students. Only cancellations received three weeks or more before the class date qualify for a refund.
The Gallery has a small supply of basic materials, but most artists prefer to bring their own. The Saturday classes are self-contained sessions.
Most of our one day courses cater for all abilities. Many very experienced artists regularyly attend all our classes, but all our tutors have made it clear that they are happy to welcome beginners. We aim to help people enjoy various aspects of Art in an informal and comfortable environment. Tea and coffee are available throughout the class. There is usually a lunchtime break of around one hour, when lunch can be purchased in Rothbury, or a packed lunch eaten in the studio.
For further details of the courses below, please contact Isabel Brightman at the gallery - 01669 621557.
Please note that no bookings will be taken before 13th March, the first day that the Gallery is open to receive submissions. Click here for Saturday Class Information >> |
