Throughout the year we run a range of classes. These take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The Wednesday classes are self programming, and they are open to all. The Friday class (run by Harry Rose)  is a self contained group within the arts centre, and the Saturday classes are open to all and are taken by invited tutors.

We occasionally run classes specifically designed for beginners. These usually take the form of a ten week programme covering the basics of drawing and painting.

A team of well known and well respected local artists delivers these sessions. They usually take place on Sunday afternoons and cost £12 per person per session.

Because these sessions are set up in response to an ongoing demand, details will appear at fairly short notice in our news section.

These sessions take place in February, March, April, May, September and October. The classes are on Wednesday afternoons from 1.00 – 4.00.

They are open to all, and materials can be bought in the centre if required.

The Friday Group was set up in November 2004.

Its members’ aims are to develop their enjoyment of painting and drawing, and also support the Coquetdale Arts Centre.

Since the Art Centre’s studio is limited in size, this group’s membership also has to be limited. This problem has been addressed by the setting up of the Notifying List. People interested in attending an ordinary workshop or a tutor led session are notified when there is a vacant place. A list of the tutor led workshops showing dates, tutors, subjects and media is given to all members and people on the Notifying List so that they can decide in advance which sessions they would like to attend.  This is a convenient arrangement as there are often vacant places during the Summer. Requests to attend any workshop (ordinary or tutor led) can be made through the chairman Harry Rose tel: 0191 2584041.

Ordinary workshops cost £6.00 to notifying members; and tutor led days cost £12.00. There are no half days.

Members bring their own materials, although there are some basic materials in the studio that can be bought from the Arts Centre at a reasonable price.

Meetings begin at 10.00am and end about 4.00pm. There are facilities for tea and coffee in the studio; and members either bring a packed lunch or buy something in Rothbury.

These sessions are open to all. Most classes cost £16 for the full day from 10.00-4.00.

 If you don’t have your own materials we can provide them for a small charge of 75p. per day.

The Saturday classes are self-contained sessions. You might want to follow up what you learn on your own at your own pace, or you might want to book into another class by the same tutor later on in the season.

Most of our one day courses cater for all abilities. Occasionally a course might specify “advanced” or “beginner”. We aim to help people enjoy various aspects of Art in an informal and comfortable environment.
